Good morning, Elle!
A bright start to the day here.
Still no sign here of our promised flood!
Is your computer working OK, now?
I am lucky.
The updates on my Chromebook are very fast.
Ten seconds at most, I'd say.
The parse for "one-armed bandit" is straightforward.
Love is "O", being by is "near", sea is the "Med", musicians are a "band", "it" is in clue.
I liked the puzzle, too!

Good morning, Rusty!
It was very dull whilst we were out for our walk.
But the sun is just reaching for his hat now......

No, unfortunately I am still not happy with my computer status.
I had a massive 'Update' - unscheduled and a mystery to me - yesterday and since then, everything has changed ......
For instance, folders have been moved around or, worse, deleted......
Some photographs which I kept in two separate folders have been merged (now all mixed up!) and relabelled "Images"!
I think the 'Update' might have been to do with "Outlook" who pulls similar stunts every so often.
And two folders are now completely empty!
Goodness knows where the previous contents are?
Is "Outlook" allowed to "interfere" with private folders?
I tried "System Restore" last night.....but it has made no difference.
Oh , how I hate modern technology!
But I am sorry......you obviously didn't bargain for such a tirade when you asked about the computer!!!

Change of subject...
How are you today?
Is your sore throat any better?
How are the (ex) travellers?

Hello, Elle!
We have rain forecast from later today until Monday.
I wonder if that is SEPA's flood warning?
That is a right carry on with your computer!
Is Outlook not an email retrieval system?
If so, it should not be going in and mixing up your files and folders, I should not think.
I would have thought "System Restore" would fix things for you.
This is no help to you whatsoever, Elle, but I am glad I have left Windows etc behind, when I bought a Chromebook.
They are not for everybody but it suits my needs perfectly.
All my photos are stored in Google Photos in "the cloud"..
Is there not a system like that on your computer where you can store them safely?
My throat is no better and now I have a cold sore on my upper lip!
The bugs are ganging up on me!

Hi, Rusty!
This "interference" has happened before....not just, of course, to me, but fairly across the board, I think.
But recently , Outlook did seem to be getting its act together and offering up a better service.
But this last is surely a downright intrusion of privacy?
No, "System Restore" did nothing whatsoever to relieve the situation.......just wasted a lot of my time!
Most of our photographs ARE safely stored...but the ones to which I referred are occasional ones sent to me by email....I just popped them into a couple of specially labelled folders for convenience.
Are you taking any medication for your throat...or gargling regularly?
Maybe get an antiviral cream for the cold sore, from the pharmacy?
I am behind times this morning....I haven't even printed out my crosswords yet!

Hello, Elle!
I do not know what Outlook is, or is supposed to do?
I use Bluemail and it has never let me down.
There are lots of different email apps, why not try a different one?
No, I am letting nature take it's course with my bug.
A few days and I should be fine.
I finished my puzzle earlier.
No new words today.
My neighbour is away for a few days.
I always give her the puzzle section of my paper, but as she's away, I may attempt the Jumbo tomorrow.
The size of it is off-putting though!

Hi, Rusty!
You will realise, of course, that I haven't a clue what you mean by 'different email "apps" '?
All I know is that Outlook "took over" Hotmail ....but Hotmail users were allowed to retain their "hotmail.com" email address, if they so wished.
I personally do not want to change my email address, as so many friends use it to contact me, and everyone is well used to it!
I don't think that I could use the same email address under a different umbrella (ie different "app") ?
Or could I?
I may just have to learn to live with the horrible changes!

I am only about a third way through the crossword, as I have been easily deflected this morning!
Good luck with the Jumbo if you do attempt it!

Hello, Elle!
Hotmail and Outlook are "email clients".
They collect your email and deliver it to your computer.
They send your emails, too.
There are dozens of email clients.
I have one email address, a BT one, and have used it with four different email clients.
I started with BT Yahoo, but moved on from them, taking my email address with me.
I now use Bluemail and it works perfectly for me.
But, none of my devices use Windows.
You do NOT need a new email address.
You use your existing one.
I suggest you speak to your daughter about it.
She will know much better than me how to keep you right!

Hi, Rusty!
Thank you for the explanation.
I had no idea as to how the process worked.
You have been incredibly patient with my dimness!
( My husband admits he hasn't a clue........and my daughter is in Eastbourne!)
As you suggest, I shall consult my daughter on her return home!
I promise not to mention it again...or at least, not for today!
I have finished the crossword except for one clue.
17d: Heading away, the solver set off in boat (9)
O?T?I?G?R
I cannot see this?
I have a few parses to think about, too...…

I know that generally you are not keen on watching films......but I have just noticed that there is a Doris Day film ("Move Over, Darling") on at 3.20 pm on BBC2.
I know you like Doris Day, so thought I would mention it!

Hello, Elle!
And since when were you ever dim!
Technology and me are not a match made in heaven, too!
Yes, get your daughter involved....after her holiday!
In the meantime, type "email client" into Google and that will give you a flavour of what I am saying?
17, "(y)ou" are the solver, heading off. Set off is "trigger".
Giving "outrigger", a kind of boat.
I'll give Doris a miss, today.
I have the Giro and the Scottish Cup Final on my TV today!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, thank you ,"outrigger" …….. yes, I can follow it!
It is a new word for me, though.
Yes, I shall look up "email client" when I come back.
I have set the recorder for Doris, and am heading out now for a walk.....
Back in a while!
