Sorry all. I say awe and oar in exactly the same way! I realise that the "r" is often stressed (and even rolled), but to all crossword intents and purposes....I think it's a good clue and a good homophone. Just shows how ignorant I am

Hi, Rusty!
Okay....three deep breaths ...and count to 3000!
For the first time ever in my dealings with Amazon, I have encountered a less-than - helpful representative at the other end of the phone!
( Usually, the staff are great; very friendly, helpful and efficient)
She wanted me to get back to Paper Cavalier....!
In vain did I explain that we were long past all that......that Amazon has taken out an action against Paper Cavalier, and that Amazon itself is now dealing with the matter under its A to Z Guarantee.
She seemed unable to understand...and surely should have had all the relevant details before her on the computer?
In the end, I rang off and will try again tomorrow!
This really is not my day!
I am going out for a long, long walk , to calm down!
Seriously though ...I am taking the dog out...
Back in a bit!

Hello, Elle!
That's a pity about Amazon.
Now, you spoke to different folk there, and I wonder if they have more than one reference number/code for your complaint, and the lady today chose the oldest one?
I meant to suggest to you, that you should have asked the original "very nice young man" if he could give you his name and/or his number so you could deal with the same person throughout your claim.
But it seemed to be going swimmingly and it left my mind.
I agree it should all be up on the screen in front of her.
It may help if you phoned back and if you got the same unhelpful response, to ask to speak to someone higher up in the Amazon chain of command?

I'm sorry elle, but I didn't get the postage back when I returned something from a third party. However, I didn't persue it.

I was only explaining that, in my accent, whatever it is (mongrel), the two words sound the same. You aren't superior if you say them differently, just different.

Hello, Rosalind.
Elle's husband was sent something he did not order.
He should not be out of pocket for kindly returning the wrong item, and I think Amazon agree.
I know what you mean with awe and oar.
Maybe the setter is from your neck of the woods!

I am from the same area as Rosalind and we pronounce "awe" "oar" and "or" in the same way. Very flat vowels in West Cheshire/ North East Wales.

Thank you jigjag, we do.

I sent back a camera that arrived a day after it was promised (too late for a party I wanted to take photos of). Amazon's records said it had been "handed to the householder" but I could prove (by two timed receipts) that I was not there at the time. Annoyed by this I sent it back (which I now regret as the one I bought isn't satisfactory.) The first camera was destroyed by the PO because it had a battery, but amazon had told me to take it to a post office (they didn't issue a return label as for some reason my PO doesn't accept them). Amazon still refunded the purchase cost but not the return postage even though I sent a receipt and they said they would do so. I wasn't arguing because I regarded it lucky they were refunding me at all, but I would if I were elle as it is such a large amount.
For something a heavy as that book, myhermes is much cheaper. Maybe amazon doesn't deal with them?
Incidentally, buying the replacement caused ructions with argos, which I will now no longer use.
For everyone's information, you can sometimes send a camera with a battery through the post but you have to pack and label it how the carrier demands.
