I'm not sure if it's still the case, but Guinness sold in England was mostly brewed at Park Royal, West London. It's a much heavier drink than Dublin Guinness. When I've been in Ireland, I've always been surprised how thirst-quenching the Guinness is; you would say that about English Guinness, I think.

Good morning,
The pub I read about as having the best Guinness in London, is the Auld Shillelagh in Stoke Newington.
If I was in the area I would certainly pop in to sample it.
That apart, Fealty's is the clear winner for me.
Great bar staff, too, and customers.
Up my way, a good pint of Guinness is a rarity.
Untrained staff, largely to blame.
I think in Ireland that Guinness have inspectors touring all the pubs to ensure the pint is right and are willing to train the staff to look after and pour it properly.

It's amazing how often I seem to leave out a "n't", thus giving exactly the opposite meaning to a comment

I meant "you wouldn't say that about English Guinness............"

Good day, Elle!
Oh dear...
I think you and your darling daughter and WhatsApp are going to drive me round the twist!
I have tried the "work arounds" and as the article states, they do not "work"!
I entered the code, was told it was "incorrect".
I tried again and was told to retry in 22 hours!!!
This morning I had another wee go and was told I had already tried to register and to retry in "14 hours and 19 minutes"!
So, I shall have another go around midnight and if they chase me again I shall uninstall it!
It works great on my phone, too. Had it almost two years.

It would appear Inspectors go around pubs in England too; one of my cousin had a pub in a small village near Witney (Oxon) and he sold Guinness.

One day too men walked in and asked for a pint of Guiness each; They were brewery inspectors and had intended to take Guinness out of that pub (probably because it was too small an outlet) ; but the Guiness was excellent, thanks mostly to the perfect temperature of the cellar and pipes system , so much so that they decided to leave it there, just for the pleasure of enjoying a pint or two each time they came in the area!

Good morning, Rusty!
I'm back later than usual today....... a very fresh morning , just how I like it! Most invigorating! (if a mite chilly!)
"Oh dear" as you so rightly say....!
I'm sorry that this app is giving you so much trouble!
When I read your previous post - sent last night, but read just now, I thought you were making good progress! even if the download took a long time to come through!
But the latest shenanigans sound incredible! (especially the countdown time from 24 hours for 'trying again'!)
I'll report all this to my 'darling daughter'!
(Speaking of which......there was a song, wqsn't there? "Yes, my darling daughter"?)
I'll look forward all agog to hear what happens at midnight!!! It's areal cliffhanger!
You asked about the Science Museum - it's in South Kensington up in London. There is a wonderful section especially for children, so the boys would really enjoy it.
I shall put it on my list of "things to do"!

Hello, Pigale!
Hope you have pleasant weather in France!
That is gratifying to know about the Guinness inspectors.
My impression, after grilling Scots pub owners, was that it only happened in Ireland. They went about in small black vans.
There was a smallish pub in our city centre, and the landlord told me the busiest nights were when a certain barmaid worked. She was a Dub and her Guinness was perfect, and folk got to know.
When she graduated and went home, he was devastated!

Hi, Pigale!
What a coincidence!
I'm on the Times QC at the moment - will move on to the Times2 afterwards! That's one clue I too won't have to think about!
