No, on a public footpath..
The guy advised us not to try lifting it ourselves.

The lid on my neighbour's drive is very light, so that is why I am confused... I need to get a coffee ;)
The large cover in the road is cast iron and would do my back in !
Good luck with whatever ....

JG, it sounds as if your neighbour has an extra smaller metre inside
his property - which is not Elle's case.

Your neighbour must have had a private one fitted in (whether he asked for it himself or not) - this is not the size streets metal cover!

Maybe your neighbour's cover is made of a different material from ours?
Certainly one could never "flick"ours , as was demonstrated on the video!
Our (smaller ) covers are cast iron - the same as is the large one that is over the sewers.

I think there is some confusion here between the very large, heavy metal cover (over water ) in the traffic lane , and the small light metal meter covers installed by the water company. If Elle goes to her neighbours' properties/ roads she will most likely some of these 8 inch/20cm covers also installed on pavement or just near boundary of property. That size is standard here
