Good morning, Elle!
Fine day here!
Been to shop and I have finished my puzzle!
Early today because I want to catch the Olympics!
The Times has emailed me a "puzzles" page.
Favourite clues of the week by Richard Rogan etc.
Quiz questions etc.
But, in the Crossword Club part, they publlsh the Top 100 solvers in their puzzles.
At number 1 is the name of someone who posts on here, but I have not noticed her posting for a while, so perhaps has moved on.
Or maybe I am unobservant!

Hello, Elle!
Posts crossed!
No frost here, but it is quite cold.
Yes, the Short Track is on soon.
I only know Elise Christie in it.
She has to do better than she did in Sochi.
Three disqualifications!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah yes....our first posts crossed!
Great minds and all that......
I had expected that you would be out early, because of watching the Olympics!
This coming week's programmes for the Olympics are very good indeed on the BBC - on for most of the day on either Channel 1 or 2.
Now.......I am wondering who is the "Top Solver".....?
Maybe Scorpio Jo?
I know she has not been on here for a while.....I think I read somewhere that she was taking a break?
(I could well have that wrong!)
You were certainly early solving your puzzle! I am leaving mine until I come back from my walk.......
Dog and I are just about to hit the road!
The fresh air may help clear my head!!
See you in a bit!

Hello, Elle!
Scorpiojo would have been my guess but it's not her!
Yes, I understand she is having a break.
Not sure if I should reveal the name or not!
Anyway, Elise Christie has just won her heat in the Short Track, in an Olympic record.
So, a good start for Elise!
Fresh air will clear your head OK!

Hi, Rusty!
I am just home again.....
I really enjoyed the walk.........although it wasn't the best of weather.......
We had sleet!
The fresh air was great though!
I feel much the better for the outing.
I shall now give my attention to the crossword puzzles!
Mrs Danvers was the "sinister housekeeper" at Manderley..... but the reference to Sheridan was necessary for the hidden answer in the clue!
I had never heard of Sheridan Le Fanu, though, until reading your mention of him!
Well done!
Elise Christie did very well in her heat!
How is everything else going?

Hello, Elle!
Blue skies here!
The setter could have used "harridan" or "Bermudan" in the clue.
No idea why "Sheridan" was used?
There was a Dr Danvers in one of his books.
Mrs Danvers is new to me, not having read the book she appears in.
Elise did well!
I switched to EuroSport after her race and watched a bit of the biathlon.
The next event to get my attention would be the men's downhill, but it is at 2.00 in the morning!

Hi, Rusty!
Mmmm.... I had thought initially that "Sheridan" was used especially because he wrote about a character called "Danvers"?
But maybe the clue was couched a little oddly for that?
It might have made more sense had the clue said "did NOT feature"....?
(But who knows what was in the mind of the setter?)
There was an excellent film of the book "Rebecca" with Laurence Olivier playing Maxim de Winter.
Very creepy.......
There have been the usual remakes but nothing as good as that!
Did you never see it?

Hello, Elle!
Exactly, we do not know what was in the setter's mind.
He or she is obviously very accomplished and in no need of criticism from us!
I think, in the main, the setters do a very good job!
No, the only Rebecca I know works in ASDA.
A very nice girl, too.
My grandson turned up on a flying visit and left me a fine haddock for my tea!

Hi, Rusty!
Haddock for tea sounds good!
I finished both the Times 15 x15 and the Jumbo GK.
I especially liked 9a, 26a and 27a in the Cryptic puzzle!
23a gave me pause for thought, though, at first, as I wanted to fit in "Ag" for silver!
It took me a while to see "Psst"!
I have one or two parsings over which I am still mulling.......
I shall take the dog in the garden before I go and wash my hair!
Oh dear...it is raining very heavily now......

Hello, Elle!
Well done!
Quite a nice puzzle today.
Think I have the parsing done, too.
I have deleted The Times Crossword Club email.
One a day is enough for me!
I am luckier than you with my weather!
Nice and sunny here!
Hope it continues for a day or two.
Up here we say "hoi !" for "psst".
