Good morning, Pigale!
Yes, Eleanor did not arrive here.
Fairly heavy rain during the night, but a beautiful morning, now!
Hope there was no damage for you?

Good morning Rusty!

No, I just went all around the house - and almost got blown away -
and saw no fallen trees, no slates, nothing, thank goodness!
Just some odd branches, but that's nothing.

Trees fell on railway lines just North of me though - and on
electric lines, so I reckon some people must be with no power - not
so good.

Hello, Pigale!
That is good there is no damage with you!
Quite normal for the strong winds to bring down the weaker/old branches.
That's Mother Nature in action!
It is no joke if there is no power, though the response teams will be out repairing the lines now, I would think.

Update, Elle,
I have discovered that Nell Gwynn's first name was Eleanor.
"Nell" must come from "Eleanor".
You may know that, of course!

Good afternoon, Rusty!
We have branches down all over the garden!
But fortunately no trees......nor any tiles from the roof!
My husband is still out there now......"tidying", and weighting down movable articles like dustbin lids .
Some things can be temporarily "stored" in the shed.
It is surprisingly stormy... we were not forecast to have such strong winds.
But I think on the whole we usually (fortunately) get off quite lightly.
"Eleanor" can be spelt like that, or as "Elinor".
Nell Gwyn was often referred to as "Pretty, witty, Nell"!
I made a start on the 15 x 15 crossword.......yes, it is difficult!
Especially after yesterday's puzzle which I managed easily.
I put it aside - for the time being - and did the QC!
I have also been writing letters and on the phone... a few matters to sort out.....
Are you watching the tennis?
Is anyone playing whom I might want to watch?

Hello, Elle!
The storms find out the weak and rotting branches!
It's been very calm here.
Yes, I know about "Elinor".
I follow Elinor Barker on Twitter.
She is a top GB cyclist.
No, I watch the skiing, but I know Jo Konta is playing today in Brisbane.
If you come to a halt with your puzzle, put it away, and when you return with a fresh mind, you will make progress!

Hi, Rusty!
I rather think my mind is not up to the intricacies of today's puzzle!
The QC was more fitting to my capabilities!
I was at school with an "Eleanor", and now know an Elinor ("Ellie" as she is more commonly called).
I had forgotten that you followed Elinor Barker, on Twitter, and so would be familiar with that spelling version!
I am trying to sort out various problems with the Council........there are a lot of local residents complaining about a number of issues - with, to my mind, justification.
But nothing will be achieved if these are not put - clearly and officially - before the relevant authorities.
So I am attempting to do this........
I am hoping if done in a friendly manner, matters can be sorted without warfare!
I may look in on Jo Konta, if I get the chance!

Hello, Elle!
Just had a look at the puzzle vlog.
Simon says it "is anything but easy!"
Also, that Mark solved it in around 6 minutes in the Championship final!
Took me over an hour!
I could give you a link for the vlog, if you wanted?
Elinor Barker tweeted earlier that she will be riding against her good friend and GB teammate, Katie Archibald, at the Gold Coast.
Elinor riding for Wales, Katie riding for Scotland.
I know Trotty has just started training after having her baby but maybe the Gold Coast will be too soon?
And Jo Rowsell has retired, so be interesting to see who rides for England in the endurance races?
Good luck in taking on the council!
The friendly approach can be very productive!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, please, I will have that link for the puzzle vlog.
At least then I will see where my reasoning is failing me!
And will hopefully learn from it.
There once was a time, Rusty, whenever I rang the Council, they would greet me by name without my having to tell them who I was!
Well, how soon is the Gold Coast Cycle ride?
I should think it will depend on this as to whether or not Laura will take part?
But thinking about it, wasn't Jess Ennis-Hill back out there competing pretty quickly after her baby was born?
Does Laura still use her maiden name competitively, or maybe she has double -barrelled it to "Trott - Kenny"?
