Hello, Elle!
I am having an evening away from athletics as there is no one competing that I am interested in.
I have not heard about this athlete with the bug?
All quiet on Twitter!
There are not many pages in a Morpurgo book!
There is another one I may get, about a boy, a bull, and the Spanish Civil War.
He has written a lot of books!

Hi, Rusty!
The Isaac Makwala (from Botswana) issue is still going on.......but whatever the background, the poor man has now missed the 400m Final!
It is a strange business , the IAAF banning him from running on suspicion of a norovirus, although he was not individually tested for such.
Especially as a lot of other athletes have come forward to say that they too have been throwing up before their events - racing, swimming, whatever - but were not stopped from entering the Stadium and competing.
Elaine Thompson said only yesterday that she had vomited before the 100m Final.
But there she was on the track, competing in her race.
Probably, the issue will hit the News tomorrow.......and we shall learn more then.
Eilidh Doyle got through to the next round of the 400m hurdles......although not as an automatic qualifier.
However, she made it as one of the fastest losers.
Ah well... all over for another day!

Good morning, Elle!
Lovely morning here!
I do not know anything about the lad who missed his race.
I watched the men's 800 metres final and that was very competitive.
And Dafne Schippers run in the 200 metres. That's all.
I had read Elaine Thompson was ill and she had a poor run by her standards.
I missed Mrs Doyle's run (forgot!)

Good morning, Rusty!
Fell dreich here!
Dog and I were soaked, as the rain came down heavily - and unexpectedly - half way round our walk!
The dog was happy, though, as she was able to get very muddy!
You will no doubt have read all about last night's brouhaha in this morning's Times?
The woman put forward representing the IAAF's point of view (in the studio interview) was useless......she uhmed and ahed, and Gabby Logan had her tied in knots.
The account in the paper differs somewhat from what I actually saw and heard.
( But then I did miss some of it, as I had to take a phone call and turned off the TV sound for a while....)
But to me, the whole thing stinks!

It's funny how perceptions differ. I thought the IAAF medical spokesperson did quite well in the circumstances and Gabby Logan was trying too hard to be a journalist - which she isn't.
At the end of the day, Makwale was prevented from running for public, not personal, health reasons.

Yes, quite so, Kenyatta, which is why I said "To me..."
I guess it all depends on what one watched / listened to, "when" and "where", as accounts as to what actually happened are differing somewhat.
What struck me as unfair is the fact that so many other apparent sufferers from sickness were still allowed to compete?
The Sports commentators said that various other athletes....runners, field eventers, swimmers..... were coming forward and saying on Social Media that they too had been vomiting, but no official had come forward to say that they were subsequently banned from entering the Stadium.
I myself heard Elaine Thompson say in an interview that she had thrown up before her 100m race.
Why not one overall rule for all?

Doesn't it depend as to whether the 'sick' athletes went voluntarily to the medical centre to report their illness before the event, or not?

It seems that the various other athletes who came forward did
so after their event in which they were involved, in support to the
Botswanian runner - am I right?

You might well be right, Pigale?
That would certainly make sense, wouldn't it?
I think we are not seeing /hearing the whole picture, because it is being told in dribs and drabs from various sources.
But very definitely one or two 'sickness' incidents were aired on the television the previous day, so prior to Isaac Makwala's bann.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
It is still raining cats and dogs here........
I wonder where this rather strange expression comes from?
My second book from World of Books has arrived!
This is also just in a polythene bag, but this time the book is in pristine condition!
I might well have bought it straight from a bookshop!
I am very pleased!
So.......two new books to read!
Have you finished your second one by Michael Morpurgo?

Good afternoon, Elle!
Yes, I have finished both of the books.
I have been this morning trying to get my chromebook back to the way I had it.
I "accidentally" wiped everything from it, and am trying to rescue it.
Many changes to it, and none for the better, but all my photos are safe in the cloud.
I can see me visiting Curry's for another one!
Cats and dogs have a link with Odin, don't they?
I have not seen anything about the Botswana runner.
But I know Elaine Thompson made no secret of her being sick before she raced.
A rule for one and not the other?
Will they stop Mo Farah running if he is unwell, or Usain Bolt?
