Cerasus, I read that online.
I have travelled all over Scotland and have never met, or heard of, a Ness, man or woman.
Several Nessies, though!

Hi, Rusty!
I expect your son is still with you as yet.......but I need to take break from viewing for a while, so will answer you now!
I actually missed Laura's heat!
But I see from Google that she was left exhausted on the track after coming in seventh!
Poor girl!
But fortunately she has made the Final as a fastest loser!
Whereas Eilish came in as an automatic qualifier in her heat, and seemed in fairly good nick after her race.
It is good to have them both through to the Final.... but a pity about Steph Twell's not making it.
I have never heard the word "staycation"!
Yes, I can see how you have arrived at all the answers - thank you!

Hello, Elle!
My son has gone, and I forgot to give him a Madeira cake, I had for him.
He brought me a silverside dinner!
I liked Eilish's quote after her heat in interview.
"That's two Dundee Hawks in the final!"
They both run for our Hawkhill Harriers!
I am wondering if Eilish should not take up marathons?
She is built much like Paula.
Laura lacks that bit of punch at the end of her races, it seems.
"Staycation" is a fairly known word?
It is not in my Chambers, but is in my Chambers app on my 'phone.
Was quite a good crossword today?

Hello, Malone,
Yep, you are correct!
Met one or two Nessies though.
Their proper names would be Agnes though, I think.

Rusty, I've heard of a few Nessies - but they were from my granny's era! And I can't see the name (Nessie or Agnes) making a comeback any time soon - like Senga, Ina and Netty, they seem to have been confined to history.

Hi, Rusty!
Can you not pop the cake around to your son tomorrow?
I am sure he will enjoy a slice of Madeira!
It may well be that Laura was just overtired? She has only just run the 1500m and has not had much training time due to her injury problem.
She has a few days before the 5000m Final, anyway, so may be recovered by then?
Fingers crossed for her anyway!
That is funny...because "staycation" is in my much maligned 13th edition of Chambers?
The definition given is "a period of holiday spent at one's own home".
Yes, quite a good crossword...I was amused by "Brrr" for 25 a!

Hello, Elle!
No, I have to keep the Madeira, he says!
Hope Laura recovers well, too.
I wonder if "staycation" has came from the USA?
It will be a newish word.
I think "brrr" was my favourite today.

Malone,
Nessies were very rare birds indeed!
And there are certainly none of the younger women rejoicing in that name!
Goodness knows what got into the setter!

Good morning, Rusty!
A beautiful day here! Bright blue skies and sunshine, with a temperature at the moment of 14C.
I have been browsing "staycation"............
According to the Oxford dictionary, it can mean holidaying in one's own country...... or, more literally, staying in one's own home and going on day trips!
I also found alternatives.....holistay and daycation!
( Neither of these appear in my Chambers )
Right, action stations ..........I need to do some "tidying" ready for the onslaught of family arriving to stay for a week!
What are you up to?

Good day, Elle!
There was a decided autumnal feel to the air this morning, up here!
"Staycation" is not a word I have ever used, but I am aware of it.
I am quite pleased that "holistay" and "daycation" have not made it into Chambers!
New words to me!
I have not looked at the puzzle yet.
Hope it is a good one!
