Hello, Elle!
They had a fine time in America.
Yes, we had a long talk.
No tennis?
I did not know that.
I have heard of chilli con carne but not tried it.
I hear it is very tasty, though.
I have started doing a Jumbo Cryptic from Easter 1991!
Looks quite a good one.
Try this one.
"Young Sheffield footballer's not at all happy in the nursery, it's said" (10,5,2,4,2,3)
It is not so difficult!
This Jumbo is 27x27.
is that the size they are now, I wonder?

Hi, Rusty!
Update on the tennis!
Caroline Wozniacki went out to Ostapenko.
This was the match I was watching when rain stopped play.
Caroline took the first set comfortably before the rain came.
Novak and Rafa were both rained off in their quarter-final matches, so have still to play.
I think the expectation is that they will eventually play each other in the Semi -Finals?
I shall try to watch tomorrow, but my daughter and YB are coming here in the morning, so I may not get much chance to "play" tennis!
I cannot do your clue?
Should I be translating "Young Sheffield....." into something to do with a Yorkshire lad?
No, I have no ideas!

Hello, Elle.
No, but Sheffield has two football teams, United...and Wednesday!
"Wednesday's" is your starter!
This is a good one, too, and you being a reader may get it quicker than most.
"Novel conditions favoured Channel crossing" (4,5,3.4,3,6)
It is a novel, but I have not read it.
Maybe a film, too?
There are some good clues in these old Jumbos.
Weather has not improved here and forecast is more rain!

Hi, Rusty!
Ah, now I have it!
"Wednesday's child is full of woe"?
Actually, I was born on a Wednesday!
On which day were you born, do you know?
I am still thinking about the other clue!
My brain is a tad sluggish at this time of night....well, I'll blame it on the lateness of the hour at any rate......
Maybe inspiration will strike me whilst I am asleep!
It has stopped raining here...the forecast for morning is (supposedly) bright and breezy!

Good morning, Elle!
Well done on the Sheffield clue!
Was a good one I thought.
The other one is, "Fair Stood the Wind for France".
Maybe a bit tougher?
These old Jumbos have a lot of "long" answers.
One or two are very easy, others less so.
This is an easy one, (I think!)
"Time for present inspection, when fleet appeared" (2,9,3,2,3,7)
This appeared in December, 1991.
It looks a bit dreich outside today.

Good morning, Rusty!
I had a lovely brisk walk this morning... a bit on the chilly side, but sunny.
I hope it is fine in France and the tennis can continue!
"On Christmas Day in the morning" is the answer to your clue!
I got this one straightaway!
I have daughter and grandson coming over this morning....I am unsure as to whether we are staying here, or going out for lunch!
I have "lunch" prepared, just in case.
I rather think YB would prefer to stay here...there will be more time for playing with all my toys!
But I shall let my daughter choose what she wishes to do.
What are you up to?

Good morning, Elle!
Well done on the clue solving!
I think me saying it was December was a good hint.
That's good you are getting some of the family to visit.
I have no plans except a walk later.
Quite windy here.
Anyway, my phone has been busy with incoming messages since early on.
Miss O'Hara has her pic in the local paper today, as one of the "Gingers". And that's why my phone was very busy!
If you type "Dundee Courier" in to your searchbox and click on the "Ginger" article, Miss O'Hara is the photo on the left, the girl with the curls.
It was even mentioned at school assembly!
Apparently they are called billboards.

Hi, Rusty!
Actually, I hadn't noticed the mention of "December".....it was the words "present" and "fleet" that did it for me....
"I saw three ships come sailing by......"
I have found Miss O'Hara's photograph!
She is lovely! And what glorious curly hair!
You must all be so proud of her.
And she will be delighted at the mention in School Assembly.
I read that some people were asked to give an account of what it is like "living with red hair"......did Miss O'H have anything to say about that?
I think red hair is beautiful...my cousin (in Blackburn) 's grandson is ginger.
Right...just time to push the hoover around before daughter arrives!

Hello, Elle!
I threw in the December bit as a help!
Another easy one from Christmas, 1973.
"No black thoughts at this time on my part" (2,8,2,1,9)
It is quite a good pic of the young one, yes.
They have sent me close-ups, too.
We are all very pleased for her!
My other granddaughters are slightly envious, I think!
I think the exhibition is on until the end of July, then something else takes over.
I do not know if she was interviewed.
The picture in the exhibition was taken some weeks ago and then silence, until messages and photos started clattering into inboxes!
We did not know the pic was going to be in the exhibition.
The lad who is running the "ginger" gig was inundated with names etc of the redheads and must have had a difficult task choosing the final ones, I'd imagine.
Great day here now, and I am heading out for a dander.

Elle!
I have blundered badly.
It should be,
"No black thoughts at this time on my part" (2,8,2,1,5,9)
