Elle, it is called Falkirk because the original kirk was made of different coloured stones, speckled church.
The name, Falkirk, is Brittonic, apparently.
It is built on the old Antonine wall.
It once had the biggest cattle tryst in Scotland and possibly Britain. The Islanders swam their cattle to the mainland and down the drovers roads along with the cattle coming from the Highlands.
Hardy lads, the drovers!

Rusty, thank you for satisfying my curiosity about
Falkirk - that is most kind of you to take the trouble to consult your encyclopaedia ! Very interesting!

(Did anyone ever find Aunt Rhody ( what a great name !) to tell her the fate of her goose?)
Chris was referring to Shirley Abicair? I don't know the name - is this in connection to the Old Grey Goose?

You're going back some time ago with Yannick Noah...! he won the French Open?
I wonder how much of the Mens' Doubles we shall see this year? The BBC doesn't always show a lot of the doubles matches.
I used to enjoy watching the Woodies - great rapport between the two of them!
Going back probably even longer than Noah...do you remember Pietrangeli and Sirola? One very short and the other very tall? Played doubles together. Very amusing on the court - played the fool but with great panache? Won their matches too!

Hello, Elle!
No bother finding things out!
I even looked for Aunt Rhody in Bradfords.
No luck under "aunt", but she had "tia"?
Abicair, I do not know. Vaguely familiar. I thought Chris was on the wrong thread!
I have Go Tell Aunt Rhody on a CD by Pete Seeger.
This was made after he left the Weavers.

The Weavers wanted to make a cigarette commercial but Pete would have nothing to do with it, and left them. Bing Crosby made one for Shell.
The other tennis folk are unknown to me, Elle?
You are no Spring chicken!
Miss L Plate comes home from holiday tomorrow.
I have missed her!

Morning, Rusty!
"No spring chicken" indeed! First, he calls me a whale.......................!
( and in any case, I am younger than you!)

I'll have you know, Rusty, that I was brought up, living, breathing and playing - and watching! - tennis! Both my parents were very keen players.
I sometimes think I must have been born with a racquet in my hand! I certainly played from a very early age!
I was only 'knee -high to a grasshopper' when I saw Pietrangeli and Sirola play!

I didn't know that Miss L-Plate was away on holiday? Yes, you will have missed her!
Where did she go? Anywhere exotic?

Extremely warm out this morning! It's going to be a 'scorcher'!

Sorry for causing confusion. Shirley Abicair was Australian, and she sang and played the zither on children's programmes in the 50s. I have a memory of her singing about the old grey goose (the one that I've been saving, to stuff a feather bed), but I could very easily be mistaken.

My local online weather forecast says wall-to-wall sunshine for today, but it's not, at the moment. Hope it improves, as I'm doing a barbecue this evening.

(That reminds me of a favourite "late arrival at the ball" on I'm sorry I haven't a clue - here are Mr and Mrs Wallcarpeting, and their son Walter................)

No problem, Chris! I'm afraid though that I've never heard of Shirley Abicair !

(On the other hand, how about "Mr and Mrs Great -night-out and their daughter, Ida....... )

A pity about your weather - absolutely glorious here!

A bit too glorious for my liking Elle - good morning and how are you?

Are you going to take your dog for a long walk if hot?

oh well, you may have some discomfort ahead of you unfortunately ! Stay under a cool shower all day, drink plenty of water, and close all shutters - or perhaps not in that order...
