Years ago, we bought a parrot for my daughter. It was a nightmare. Neither she, or myself could get near it. It would only be handled by my wife. It drew blood on me once.

Hi, Rusty!
Back now.......it was very hot out, but we stayed in the shade under the trees, more for our sakes than the dog's, as she doesn't seem to be affected by the heat.
If she wants to run, then she does so regardless of temperature!
That's a so-and -so about the broadcasting of the 2024 Olympics! but maybe the BBC will do a deal with Discovery as you say. I would think it would be in the Beeb's best interests to do so , wouldn't you?
But that's a way off - no need to worry about it yet!
I certainly cannot miss any Athletics though!
I've been watching some of the tennis ...have you seen any of it yourself?

Hello, Elle!
No heat like that in my neck of the woods!
The BBC seem to be losing the Sport.
I have an idea they have lost the Open to Sky in the years ahead.
For athletics fans, Eurosport have an excellent coverage although they have commercial breaks.
But...and it is big but, for folk who are only interested in British runners, at the major championships, it will be disappointing.
Eurosport concentrate on the event rather than, say, the plucky Brit in fourth place, or the GB javelin thrower's Granny in the crowd. No Sue Barker types involved.

I thought you got British Eurosport on Freeview?

I saw a bit of Miss Sharapova's game.
Certainly great weather at Wimbledon!
That wont be a long way from you?
It is in South East London, I think?

Hi, Rusty!
No, we don't have any Eurosport on Freeview - the only sport we get is from the basic channels, BBC and ITV.
It may well be that we shall have to rethink our provider, if sport is no longer available on such channels.
I certainly wouldn't be willing to miss any athletics or tennis, in particular. And my husband likes watching football.
We shall have to have a serious think!
I'm not only interested in British runners / players though, I watch for the event , not just the British interest - altho obviously I cheer for the Brit if it is that sort of competition. It gives an added interest and spice if there is a bit of partisanship!
...............and I like Sue Barker!

Wimbledon is in South West London, SW19 ( not the South East) so is not very near to us. It's about ten miles away.
It can be raining in Wimbledon ( and often is!) but be nice and sunny here!

Elle, you would like Eurosport, then. Athletics feature very often, and tennis. I often watch Roland Garos.
I don't mean you, personally, would only be interested in GB athletes, but many folk are.
I like Sue, too, but she has no equivalent on Eurosport, is what I mean! No Clare Balding either, another favourite of mine.
Tonight there is snooker, tennis, motor bike racing, wifies football, cycling etc.
A lot more athletics and tennis than BBC show.
Two channels, too.
My London geography is not up to much!
Not sure what your husband will do. Football seems to be going to Sky and BT Sport nowadays.
I remember when I was a lad (no, I am not about to sing!) I used to look forward to seeing the English Cup Final. It was probably the only game shown all year.
And when Saturday came, I discovered BBC Scotland were showing Swimming from Falkirk, instead!
Did you know Falkirk means speckled church?

Is it the 'kirk' bit that means church ?

Yes, Pigale, it is.
I think it comes from Old Norse kirkja.
Kirk is a very common word in Scotland.
Is it still very warm with you?

My husband used the word a few times when talking about his time in Glasgow, so that's why it rang a bell.

I am at present cooling the house down - all windows opened - tonight is going to be cool enough, around 16c, but the Met Office had issued an orange alert/warning for tomorrow onwards for canicule - very hith heat wave, here due to gradually climb towards 37/38C if not more, but the worse part is that the night temps will not go below 22/23, and that is not so nice.

My British friends told me tonight that there has been a number of people dying from heat in India - they are used to is but this time it was apparently over hot and lasted much longer.

Are you due for better temps (18 to 23 sound nice? )

Hey, Rusty!
How come you discovered the meaning of Falkirk?! Did you just come across it or were you looking for it for some reason?
Speckled church? how interesting... I wonder why it was called that?
Not really any surprises in today's tennis... it was good to see Liam Broady win his match! and a pity that Lleyton Hewitt lost out so early. He was doing well when I went out...I was surprised to find he had lost when I came back, altho I guess it was always on the cards that he might lose to Nieminen.
I was willing Serena to lose but it didn't happen!
I still think Novak Djokovic a gentlemanly player and a good sport, no matter what the possible drugs situation ( after all, no proof?) so I think I shall continue to support him? - after Roger Federer of course!
Have we given up on the old grey goose? ( it wasn't in the park!)

Elle,
"Go, tell Aunt Rhody
The Old Grey Goose is dead,
Grandpa found her lying
In the millpond
On her head"
That's the latest, Elle!
I do not know why speckled but, just for you, I shall consult my Scots Encyclopaedia and see what the craic is!
Do not let me put you off Djokovic!
I would support Yannick Noah but he is not playing!
I shall go and hunt for the Scots Enc..........
