hi rusty
I bought a cheap BT phone with caller ID screen, just after my husband died, for safety reasons and I am very glad I did !!
If this is not advertising it is BT Decor

Hello, Jazzgirl,
I do not think it is advertising, no.
"Decor" sounds familiar.
My phone has a screen on it but I do not think it displays an incoming number!
I have long ago lost the instructions for setting it up.
Thank you for the info!

Hello, Jazzgirl!
Thank you kindly, for the link!
Guess what?
My phone is a BT Decor!
I tried it out by dialling it with my mobile and the display indicated "incoming call", so I would need to get BT to switch on the ID part, so callers are identified on it.
But there is no answering machine on it.
Must have different models.
I shall explore Amazon.
Thank you, again!

hi rusty
I am with BT so I just added "caller ID" for security. I do not have a separate answering machine. There is a button "1571" which records messages on the BT decor. I pay extra for that.
I am off to do some much-needed leaf-raking :)

Good evening, Rusty!
Thank you, yes, I did enjoy my outing!
It was good to catch up with my friend and hear all her latest news.
This involved not only her Summer spent in Majorca, but her downgrading to a smaller, more manageable home out in Essex.
All seems to be going well.
Did you remember to post your birthday card?
I had two to post today!
I read about everyone's phone stories...........
We do not have caller ID on any of our house phones, so we are forced to answer any calls in order to ascertain who is calling.
We do have a 1571 answerphone system on the landline though - the cost is £6-25 per quarter in our particular BT package.
Very useful it is, too.
I never answer my mobile unless the caller's name shows on the screen.
Have you done the crossword?
I haven't even opened the paper yet!

Hello, Elle,
Good you had a fine day out.
Now the birthday card.
Thereby hangs a tale!
I had no stamp, d'you see?
So I drove to the stamp shop and purchased some, intending to post card right after.
Then I realised I was only 400 yards from the house where the recipient (my grandson) lived, so I texted "Anybody home?" and was told to visit.
They had just been to collect their new beagle pup and she is lovely!
So, I had a nice morning!
Yes, I did the crossword earlier.
Now, phones!
I think I have the same phone as Jazzgirl, for there is a 1571 button on it that I have never tried.
So, I gave it a push and stood well back, and a voice said "press 1 to get signed up for messages" and 2 for something else.
So, I appear to up with the technology, at any rate.
In the afternoon, I had an "incoming call" which turned out to be British Gas trying to contact the garage!
So, I had a chat with a very nice Geordie girl (I think), and she had used the wrong area code as well!
They press 2 instead of 3.
So that was my day.
I have set my machine to record British Library, later!

Hi, Rusty!
So you had a good visit with your grandson and met the new puppy!
That is good!
So did you hand deliver the birthday card in person, after all?
We don't have the one "button" for 1571, but have to press the four numbers in sequence....
I think our technology must be somewhat outdated compared with yours!
Still, the outcome is effective!
We get our messages successfully!
When we come home, to check the phone for messages, we lift the receiver and if any messages are left, we get a broken tone........ we then dial 1571 (by pressing the four numbers) to listen to the messages.
Yes, to retrieve the messages, we first press 1,as you said.
Ain't technology grand?
I can live with my outmoded system!
What time is your "Treasures" programme?
I have forgotten whom it is this week?
I still haven't looked at the crosswords......

Hello, Ros!
Sorry, I haven't watched Eggheads yet....
I promise to get back to you when I have!

Hello, Elle!
The puppy is great.
A very welcome addition to the family.
My grandson was not there. Just the older ones.
I have had this phone a long time.
The Treasures is on later and is being recorded.
Will watch tomorrow.
It is the poet who is not Jeremiah Wheelbarrow.
I have forgotten his name again.
He looks a bit like Bob Marley, though.
Do you remember him well, now?
My mobile contract is up soon.
I can renew from tomorrow.
Decisions!
