Hello, Elle!
Lucky you with the weather!

I did not Know that Amazon sold Tasers? Handy!

Yes, had a wee buying spree. The day before I ordered the Henrietta Lacks book, and "Between the Lines" by Victoria Pendleton.
Yes, you are quite correct about the Assassins.

The last book, I had a few years ago, and loaned it and never had it returned.
Type "Calum McLeod of Raasay" into Google and you can find out a bit about him. He was a remarkable man.
The "Road" is just astonishing that one man could have achieved what Calum did
.
That is good you and husband are adapting to the new buggy! I would be interested to know what the garage does to "disable" unwanted gadgetry.

I learned a new word last week. Not in my Chambers.
It is "earworm", not earthworm, but "earworm".
It is when you get a tune in your head that wont go away. (Roughly!) It is in Anne Bradford's book under "tune"
Well today I have an earworm.
It is an old song, and the first line is,
"There's a pawnshop on the corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania", I am sure you know it. But because I only know the opening line, somehow it evolves into "Little Boxes" by the great Pete Seeger. Mad!
Maybe it is time I discussed powers of attorney with the young ones!

Right, that's me. Coffee is just not coffee without a ginger nut biscuit, and I have run out!

Morning Rusty,

How on earth are you going to manage without the ginger nut 'drug'?

Re earworm - a very useful word as far as I am concerned, I was always stuck when telling someone I had 'a tune stuck in my head' - rather a long way to translate what is only one word in French.

Good day, Pigale!
I have been to the superstore just now!
3 packets for £1!

What would "earworm" be in French?

How do you think Thomas Voeckler will do in Le Tour?
He is a favourite of mine. Just love the "grimaces"!

Pigale, I bought the entire set of Jane Austen's books for a ridiculously low price in the Black Friday Sale at Amazon.
I did have random copies here and there , but this was such a beautiful se,t I couldn't resist. I keep promising myself that I will work through them again, but so far haven't got around to it!

Hey, Rusty!
Now, don't tell me you are buying a taser gun ......this is taking things a tad too far....!
(However did you discover that Amazon sold them, anyway? you surely didn't Google it?)
I looked up Calum McLeod of Raasay. What an incredible man to tackle such a daunting project as building a road on his own! No wonder you are interested in learning more about him - I hope you enjoy the book.
Now for a surprise....! 'Earworm' IS in MY Chambers! At last, I actually have something in my dictionary that isn't in yours, instead of the other way around!
The definition is given as "An irresistibly catching piece of music".
No, I don't recall "There's a pawnshop on the corner in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania" (not by Pete Seeger, was it, or I think I might have remembered it ?)
But you've had me going around singing "Little Boxes" .......not to mention "Where Have All the Flowers Gone"....... "If I Had A Hammer"......... etc...... the trouble is I cannot remember all the words....!
I like Ginger Thins better than Ginger Nuts! but I'll have a ginger nut right now with my coffee if you'd care to pass one over please......

Hi again Rusty,

A French 'earworm' is '(UNE) RENGAINE' .

Thomas Voeckler is funny to watch I agree, but he also is a very good cyclist who is improving all the time. Good climber, which is of paramount importance in the Tour. Need to read about his opponents though.

I also like the fact that he turned down the offer of switching over to Cofidis team and chose to remain with his present team Europcar; He found sponsors and therefore decided to be faithful to the team manager Jean-Rene Bernardeau to whom he owed a lot, (even though Cofidis had offered to double his yearly income).

Mind you, his present income is something like 420 000 euros a year, so I think for this amount one can afford to remain faithful!

Here's a bit of boring information for you:
Guy Mitchell: there's a pawn shop etc.
Pete Seeger: Little boxes

The main reason for one tune often merging into the other in one's head (I've also done the same as rusty)
is they are both in 3/4 time (waltz)
And, although, Little Boxes is in the key of C major
and the pawn shop is in G major
you can easily play or sing both in either key.
Yawn .......

I've got a (very old!) single of Guy Mitchell's......
"Heartaches by the Number".
Goodness, that takes me back a bit!

I was not really a Guy Mitchell fan. I bought "Singing the blues" a year after Guy recorded it, but mine was by Tommy Steele !
