Quisling, check the spelling, I think you’ve made the same mistake as Chris and I.

Scratch that, I’m wrong about the spelling.

If we’re talking East Africa the only alternative changes the 8th letter. I’ve been there. I’ll leave it, but thanks anyway

Has Brendan got the spelling wrong, then? I feel somewhat relieved that I haven't been wrong all this time!

I had a ‘d’ as the second letter of the second word which makes the wordplay work, but it’s not spelt like that, perhaps the clue is wrong.

I don’t like claiming setter error, as it’s usually solver error, but in this case I can’t see a satisfactory alternative. So until I have a brainwave I am assuming he clued as you suggested with the “d”.

For Brendan who can be a hard taskmaster this was nice and gentle but good fun. Can I ask if the theme is obvious when you get 6d? Because I'm struggling to see others if it is.

6d is one. The others are rather more cunningly concealed.

I romped through this - relatively - but remain stuck on last two : 25a and 23d - can anybody point me in the right direction?
