Thanks ChrisE - got may ratings wrong in 2d!

Hells Bells Brendan sorted. Saw the light immediately, many thanks. I too was thinking entirely of the wrong Potter!!!

Hi Chris,

4d - single letter "gently" as in music goes inside/'prodding' 4 letter "Mr Bean" (not the first one your probably thinking of) - definition is "body parts"

12a - 3 letter "soldiers" go around/'defending' single letter "base" then 3 letter "that's horrid" - definition is "poorly"

Glad you got there Sam, I made the same mistake and picked the wrong "potter" (hence my 'lift and separate' hint), which is no doubt exactly what Picaroon intended:-)

Also, by now I should know that Monet works doesn't refer to paintings by Monet..

I lifted and separated and still went for the wrong Potter - found myself trawling through characters in The Singing Detective etc…

I remember that show Rog, it was quite risque for it's time, if memory serves.

I used to see one of it's stars, Michael Gambon, from time to time when I was a buyer at the White Tower in the Tower of London - I think he must have been on the board or whatever oversight committe they have:-)

NB. I almost wrote "must of" instead of "must have" but then remembered Malone's abhorrence last time I made that faux pas 😉

Yes, Brendan - it was one of those shows that, as a teenager, I frequently squirmed and blushed while watching it with my parents. It was excellent though. Michael Gambon now chiefly remembered for another ‘Potter’ role of course (though not by me).

Singing Detective is on bbc iplayer at the moment. Great show.
