Hi Pippa (post no 9),

I should have said PDM, which is how it's usually seen, and it stands for 'penny drop moment'

14a could refer to the Wars of the Roses?

Geeker, in 13a, wouldn’t ‘improved health’ have been better served by a 6-letter first word, or am I missing something? Both options work for hubby but the 6-letter is a better fit to the clue.

Well I would say that was the toughest Everyman for a long time but very enjoyable. Top half went in relatively easily but the bottom, ending in a blank SW for some time was tough. Clues like 16a are up to Saturday prize standards but very clever.

Thanks to all for help on this. COD 16d as it raised a smile when I finally got it.

Hey folks. Lurker turned poster here. Struggled with this one at first but now only have 5d unsolved.

I saw from earlier that 'catches' was the direct definition but am still no closer.

Agree that 16a, 19a were great clues.

Wulgus,
Welcome! Yes, catch as you might a jumper. One letter son and ‘scold’ as a noun.

Brutally difficult. I can solve 6 clues.

I am embarrassed to ask for help with 4a…I have the first letter D
