Very good I thought, agree more testing than the last couple of prizes. The date wasn’t lost on me. Would have worked equally well on a day in January (which also happens to be a Saturday this year).

FOI 18, LOI 11. Found this one hard but fair, and a typical Paul offering for the prize slot. Struggled with the UK-specific general knowledge a bit, though getting the theme early on helped .

jono @12: that's what rogissimo was alluding to, and I agree, but today is one of those days that many people overlook.
As for the other one, surely it's on a Saturday next year, not this year.

Ugh. Fair? Didn't seem that way to me. Saw the theme early on, but little help that was, except 21,7. Come on though - a 28-letter clue? Nasty, even for Paul. Yes, I see the anagram, but I'm not that familiar with 17a, so it took some searching. I did like 19, so I'll call that my COD.

I think it took me longer than the Listener.

Morning all, I think this is the trickiest prize for ages. Struggling a bit but have a few. Somehow I seem to have known 8a which is odd but I do love a haggis!

Being a full blown Sassenach I know nothing of 17a and even getting the theme quickly has not helped. I wonder if I am going to be able to see this through.

I don't know why I bother with Paul. Only 3 or 4 on first pass, then I Googled 17 with Titan, and there was half the puzzle done!
Several not fully parsed, but I'm not sufficiently interested to ask.
Does 21,7 actually have a definition?
The date isn't 17's though - probably less well known.
Quite liked LOI 19.

Chris, defn. in 21,7 is first two words.

Thanks jono. I thought (incorrectly) that the first two words gave the first 4 letters.
