An entertaining and, at times, testing Prize fro Brummie.

Not too difficult but by no means easy either (watch those splinters Bren!)

If you do get suck, there is at least one long anagram and at least one hidden, both in the downs.

COD: I'm not sure if I've ever picked a homophone type clue as a COD before but 13a is a most worthy winner, closely followed by the witty 24a.

NB. 13a reminded me of a sory told by Anna Kendrick when she was on the Graham Norton show. I won't go over it here, but it's easy enough to find on YouTube should you so wish.

Thanks to Brummie for a fun and challenging Prize.

How did you get on? Let us know in the comments.

Stay safe:-)

3d - I had meant to say that my first impression of this was that the definition was somewhat lacking, based on my understanding of the word's meaning but, according to Chambers, it is "something or someone insignificant or contemptible", so "nobody wants a" seems ok - what do you think?

Being a northern peasant, 13a was my penultimate.

@2 - unless the clue (3d) qualifies as an &lit?

Hi Swarbrules, I imagine Camilla would pronounce it like the fish:-)

Late to the show tonight after a party. I agree with everything you say, brendan. Entertaining but not too hard. I share your reservations about 3d, and I don’t think it quite works as an &lit, but I may be missing something.
COD? I don’t know, but I really liked 5d and 24.

Morning Brendan. Nearly another record finish today with 2 new words to boot. FOI 1, COD 13 and 4. I often watch the great Anna Kendrick story on Youtube.

Morning Samuipete,

It was the 'ancient Italian' and 'stars' that were new to me.

It is a great story isn't it, especially the way she tells it with the put on posh voice. I was tempted to provide the link but, like I said, it's simple enough to find.
