I did have a "what's happened to the real Arachne?" feeling about this. Nothing like as enjoyable as her best, or even her average!

Hi everyone

Started very late this week after an afternoon visitng my favourite garden again (High Garden at Kenton), which was opened for the last time this year. Next time it will be 1 April.

Was surprised to find it fairly easy to begin with, but struggled towards the end with one or two and there are several I cannot fully parse. I haven't had time to read all the thread yet. I haven't watched the film (already forgotten what it was) and haven't spotted the Pauline answer.

I cannot see 2d despite having the crossers. Any hints?
Parsing problems 4ac - I've got the definition, but not the parsing
16ac - I can't explain the second letter.
25ac - I'm not sure of the definition and can't get the parsing to work

Last week, when I was away, I did do the crossword (it was a tribute to my friend), but didn't spot a theme.

Hi Roof,

2d - Single letter "Head of Accounts" + 2 letter "paper" goes around/'clips' 1,1 "loves" - definition is "current"

16a - 2 letter "about" + 2 letter "holy books"

25a - "regularly spurned" is the instruction not the usual "regularly" - definition is "scotch" (not 'to scotch')

Roof,

That was really nice touch, doing last week's crossword as a tribute to your friend:-)

I've now read the thread, which has sorted out 2d for me and parsed 25ac.

My FOI was 9ac, not a word I knew. My LOI was 2d and my CODs were 7d, 1d, and several others.

I can't spot the Pulp Fiction allusion as I haven't seen the film and like Geeker I initially thought Archer must be The Archers. I'd never heard of 15ac being used in this way.

I'm off to watch telly now and relax. It's been a very busy week.

What was happening in Topsham, Rocky?

Hi roof
15a was the Pulp Fiction reference - a bit tangential, but the first place I ever heard it.

I considered posting a P F video clip re. 15, but it's part of a long potentially offensive (and definitely shocking) sequence so I passed. Google is a resource for the curious (and warned).

Late submission from me, took longer than usual to get the grey matter going today, plus I needed a lie-in after a hectic half term Friday!

Finally complete, thanks to various nudges and hints on here so thanks to all. I'd rushed the deciphering of 8D and got the wrong first word, so that definitely held me up.
