Very neatly clued I thought. Good to see Arachne back in the Guardian, first time this year I believe, though she sets regularly as Rosa Klebb in the FT.

Only just started and have quite a full schedule today but great to see both Pulp Fiction and Archer getting a mention in the same thread. If you haven't seen either you need to.

And a big thanks to geeker. I'd read that clue a number of times then just now his COD dropped. The great thing about PF is you can watch it over again and still get something new out of it.

I'm certainly not finding this easy. For some time I only had (FOI!) 9a and 8d poking into the top. Still stalled in the NE, apart from 10a and 6d.
Doesn't 11a need a DBE indicator?
I can't see the parsing of 13a either, despite hints.
Where does the last letter of 25a come from?

Hi Chris,
11a ‘sherlock’ (noun) as given in Chambers (small s)
13a remove the single letter and you should have a word for background
25a focus on words three and four (spurned is telling you to throw away the unnecessary letters)

Chrise 13a 8 letter background around 1 letter mentioned in clue.

All done. Good start then found last few difficult. The NE corner was very clunky I thought. Still unable to parse quite a few. 3d being one. I don't usually like so many anagrams but in this case Arachne has disguised them very well. Thanks to them for what turned out to be a bit of a challenge to close off.

Have to go 1d spoonerism for COD.

Off to meet a fellow Gooner who I generally only see at the ground in Topsham so we can talk about things other than football for a change.

Thanks jono. "Background" seems loose, as someone said earlier.

Still stuck in the NE. A hint for 4a might get me going again?

4a is hidden but not in the usual way
6d consider harry and potter separately and ignore the capitalisation
