lupus - 1d explained by jono at 12. 3d certainly brought back memories - not entirely unpleasant because one is doing it with love ... unless one is the abominable Rees-Mogg (who was my MP for 12 years!)

I actually found this relatively straightforward with a few smiles along the way. It’s true that I couldn’t have got 16a without the crossers (it was also my LOI) but when I did I thought it was very clever.

A musical hero, along with Bechet, I have been listening to him for 60 years or so.

Hi, all. I agree - definitely harder than usual. 26A made me literally LOL. I think 16A is very clever (I only got there with Bowergirl’s hint) but I tried explaining it to my fellow solver and she wasn’t convinced.
Thanks, Everyman. An enjoyable start to a wet Devon morning.

I agree with many of the other comments that this Everyman was more difficult than usual.
I just need a hint on the parsing of 10a. No-one else has queried it so I must be missing something obvious!

Thanks to Yevrah's crossers in 12 I had doubts about my initial solution for 16a (TINY TOT). I eventually resolved my error which had held up completion of the northern half. My question about 16a is the absence of a means of distinguishing between the two possibilities other than having the crossers. Otherwise, for me, a challenging Everyman with some fine clues. No complaints.

10a - A + three-word abbreviation for something that sucks - all reversed ("rejected"). Definition "bubbly"

I had problems with 16A too.
Are we to suppose that the question mark is enough to suggest possible truncation? Or have general conventions been ignored?

A vac as in a vacuum cleaner. Sucking the dirt up.
