Not sure I've got 1d right - if I have, I can't parse it!

Hi Neville, 1d parses 1,3. The 3 I associate more with tennis.

Paul has clued 16 in a similar way before (see 28,009) using a shortening of a different word. I’m also reminded of our Clueless 541 thread which Mattrom and others will recall.

Thanks Jono, I was trying to reverse the 3-letter word (as in "lifted"), the solution was actually much more straightforward!

Good day all. This was hard today. Not yet finished. Cannot get 7d. I have S - A - I - C - I - , I think that my crossers are ok. Help needed.

Your crossers are fine, Yevrah. It's the proper name of something mentioned in the clue, I guess you'd have to have heard of the individual involved - I think it was also a film?

Thanks neville17, got it now and I have seen the film. After all that, quite enjoyed some difficult clues, liked 8d and 24a but need to get back to my board.

Hi Yevrah, I hope that’s a chess board and not an ironing board. Or perhaps it’s a surfboard!

Can anyone please help with 3d? I've got all the crossers, which leaves only a handful of possibilities, but none of them makes any sense to me.
