The second word can occur e.g. in "She's a ***", a la "Jumping Jack Flash".

I'm totally baffled by your last couple of posts Rocky

What do you mean by "a diiferent word not I" and "I different word beginning with i is often used as the first word in chemistry circles"?

I’ll “hazard” a guess it’s inert.

Thank you geeker@29 for the explanation of 13a. That was my LOI and as a non footie fan it hacked me off a bit that it depended on that not-particularly-general knowledge, felt rather niche to me.

Sorry to buck the trend, but I was not that impressed with 3d. If Lenurb was a legit name then it would be different but as it was it was obvious what the clue was doing. I thought the anagram at 6d and the pun at 18a were better clues. ( I liked this week's 'primarily' clue, too). YMMV.

Finally got to it this morning, and found it very tough to get any traction, with an answer here, an answer there, but no momentum to finish a quadrant.

Finally got the SE, followed by most of the NE, then the other two little by little.

But I don't know the answer to 13A, which I just randomly guessed a word that fits the letters but, I fear, not the clue.

Judging from mentions of 13A in previous pages here, I suspect that a Yankee like me would not know this.

The wordplay is clear enough though, and the "perhaps" made me suspect a proper name. I just put 13a Seaman in a search engine, and my suspicions were confirmed.

As did I, but only after learning of the answer's correctness here.

The Britishism that really threw me recently was the monkey and 20 horses one.
