Back to the more usual type of Everyman which, I think many of us will agree, is a good thing.

19d is an odd clue in that the answer and wordplay are clear, but is the definition really "a becoming one"? I don't know, maybe I've misunderstood it!

COD - I have to choose the wonderful 3d.

Thanks to Everyman for a true return to form:-)

Hi Brendan, I initially put in an incorrect answer to 19d. With "a becoming one", I believe that the entry is the plant.

Brendan, agreed on 3 as COD!

19d is rather clever, but has some ambiguity. Definition is "Tom likes it".
Seems to be a letter substitution for A ("a becoming one") in a 6-letter word for "brief sleep"; problem IMO is that A appears twice but only the 2nd occurrence gets substituted.

Aaahh! Thank you Mattrom, thank you Geeker,

As feared, I did misunderstand it - it's actually a great clue, now that I know what's going on:-)

... with the caveat that, as Geeker says, it doesn't say which "a (is) bemoming one".

I gave up on this, for once. I don't know anything about wendyball or French detectives, so I forgive myself. Especially as I follow the Welsh tradition of supporting the opposition. I'm sure there are others in my boat, for whom 13a is arcane slang!

Hi clarkgwent, I haven't got the answer to the Poirot one either, but it might help to know that he is Belgian - then again that might not not be relevant!
