Hi Brendan. Only just started reading the forum. He was the greatest. Never to be replaced. Never more so than when he grew that ridiculous ponytail that never looked right on a gruff Yorkshire man.

Some can carry it off. Some can't. We'll say no more about it. Unusually I've been held up for a while by 16d and 25a. Been staring at them for ages and no inspiration. Sometimes it's better to break off and let the subconscious do the work.

He was an Arsenal fixture for what seemed like ever!

1d - concentrate on "those who've betrayed their principles" and then you'll see how it fits with the first part.

2a - "puzzle" as a verb with "act as inspiration" split 2,4

Rocky. 16d is a sort of double definition. If a shop has a very popular product it will 4, 3. Hopefully that’ll point you in the right direction.
25a parses as 2 (act as) and 4. Think of an artist’s inspiration. Defn is to puzzle

Good fun I thought. As someone who was at the Parc des Princes on that fateful night I'm glad that the Spurs fans on here enjoyed it. I could suck it up because 12 months previously I was in Copenhagen.

Amen to that teewens.

Bit of a struggle those last two. Thanks Brendan but still took me a while to get home. And thanks to Everyman in particular for 3d. Tremendous clue.
