I join the ACEers. Does this make it a full-house? And I agree with the earlier big ponderers.

also an ACEr, and had raised for 23 with the alternative 27 ... I too finished (otherwise) without seeing the theme. I'm assuming the repeat in 16 is actually defined by "familiar" - but not sure where the H comes from.

Prospero, I don’t think there’s a repeat. The first four letters in 16a are a name expressed casually hence “familiar”. At least that’s how I read it.

Yes, jono, that’s how I read it too (and there’s support from a discussion between geeker and brendan above, if I remember rightly). I don’t have any of her stuff, but the name sometimes comes up in my reading (generally in a slightly satirical context).

rog@34: I saw her nick before in one cryptic iirc...very much like this instance in that I had no idea but the letters could be guessed from crossers. I still needed Google to confirm in both cases.

12 is my last one. I can think of an obvious word for types, but why is it “books?”?

Was struggling with this until I came here as the IPhone App says nothing about special instructions….
Now I have seen them I only have a couple left to solve.

SimonH - I remember having exactly that problem when I used the iPhone app some years ago. On that occasion I eventually worked out that something must be going on and also what the missing rubric must be. Not sure that I would have been so successful this time, although it looks as if someone who has commented above did manage it!

Despite having full instructions on Android I am still struggling though I have only the NW left now. If someone could give me a hint of just one of the clues up there that is an SI I might be able to nail it.
