Thanks from me too Dodgepot. Reassuring. Sorry to have introduced a red herring...

The clue "Zulu medicine ..." leads to an eight letter word with wordplay and definition. What's the second half, starting" iratest local's ...", doing? It looks like it's a second clue but the number in brackets is the total length of BOTH answers. So I'm obviously missing something obvious :)

Raggedy, the first part leads to a (4) and the second part the same. I think for the first part to make (8) the ‘abandoned’ would have to be cut

Thanks Eider.

As usual, have a full grid and almost complete instruction, with no idea what to do next. It would help if someone could confirm the extra letter in the “I head over” clue, but I suspect I shall still need a further nudge.

I believe it's an e eenk.

The key to the endgame is to identify the word for the thematic group that has something in common with that 7 splitters.

The full word isn't in the chambers app, but a slightly shorter version is.

The full word isn't in the Chambers 2016 print edition either which I think is a bit off. I found it in both Collins and the ODE.

Really? It's in my 2014 13th edition chambers hard copy.

Yes, really. I checked all 3 editions which I have - 1998, 2008 & 2016 - and in each of them the first word (alphabetically) added to the main word is "cord".
