I have an answer to 2D (Gives in - or out! (6)) but can't see an anagram for it. My answer begins with Y - am I on the right lines?

App, no - your Y is wrong. It's not Yields, the 'gives in' is a synonym for concedes....

Thanks for the last few comments. Unlike other folk, I had the biggest problems in the NW corner and I now have these last two answers. But I am a little worried about the comments about 26D There is only one possible anagram for 28A and that gives a consonant in the middle for 26D surely?

I dont think we have said anything else. The first two checked letters are consonants, the final checked letter is a vowel.
