Thanks ChrisE, I finally cracked 17 myself in the meantime, and I now understand 19.

3 clues left any hints to 14d. I have o, y and l as the 4th 6th and last letter.
Also on 26a I have b and l as the 3rd and 5th letters

The parsing is very clever, but pretty impossible "bottom up".
26 I thought wasn't entirely fair, as "cell" by itself doesn't give the answer, really. It's just an oil company with another letter added.

Think of American usage for cell.

Do they really use that? Both "cell" and the solution need another word to make sense here.

All done now. I agree that 26a was a bit unfair. I could have looked at 14d all day and not got it.

I agree Birder. I would never have got it. And even when I did I just couldn't work out either the definition or the parsing. But it was a really clever clue as were a lot of them. Good puzzle I thought.

Chris, yes we do use it sometimes, though cell is much more common.

Didn't start until 3.00pm after the Quick and Quick cryptic (the latter took longer than usual this week).

Got two on the first reading but closely followed by 22ac and 14d, which I thought very clever. I found the word on a word search, but then had to look it up to find the definition. So SE corner the only one finished - the rest is very hard. I'll go away and work through the threads from here and see which others I can get.

I'll look for the long down anagram Brendan.

Please can I have hints for 16d and 25ac. This may help me get 18ac and 21ac
