What a nice start to a Sunday. I had the wrong phrase for 1a originally. Soon sorted though.

Me too with 1a! I realised I was wrong when 2d didn't work. Hadn't heard of 25 but it was logical enough.

Good fun I thought. Everyman uses this grid (or variations thereof) for one of his regular devices, so I knew what to look out for. I’ll say no more as it’s early.

Delighted to have an Everyman back in the old tradition. Many recent ones have been more like Prizes in terms of difficulty. This hit the spot for a fun start to Sunday.

Yes that was a fun way to spend half an hour or so. Got held up a bit by 5d which i thought was a horrible word, but in the end it was the only thing that fitted with the crossers. I have always wondered what the source of the 4d alliterative phrase was. 8a made me laugh, (reminded me of Barry Cryer on Clue), and 11a was very clever with all the anagrams. Glad the weather here has turned cooler, it makes thinking about puzzles easier. Have a lovely day.

What's the point of the ugly "as'll" in 7d? The same idea could have been phrased more elegantly, surely?

Yes, good fun once I corrected my spelling of 13d and redid most of the south west corner.

Chris, I agree re 7d, that struck me as odd. “That might help…” would have done the job.

Could the "as'll" in 7 be an allusion to the play / film?
I suspect so, but never saw either.
Was thinking the 1983 film, but there was also a 2015 remake.

Shouldn’t the first word in 16 be ‘contemptible’ rather than ‘contemptuous’?
