Mr Julesvern

Donne's line ' No man is an ... ' clearly does not apply here

I found Everyman 4052 to be a bit easier than the previous 45-50 Everymen that I've done. Solved in just over half an hour.

But I also found the clues to be a cut above previous Everymen, nicely polished.

For 23a I think I have the answer but I’m not sure of what the meaning of average is here. To make it work, my answer includes a term for a number that occurs the most in a series of numbers. Is my answer still right or have I got something wrong?

Your answer’s correct I’m sure. I agree it’s not a great clue as that word doesn’t mean ‘average’ in a statistical sense.

I don’t think it’s such a bad clue. At school I was always taught there are three types of average. The mean, sum of all the boys’ heights divided by the number of boys. The median, height of the middle boy, arranged shortest to tallest. And the ****, the most frequently occurring height. Maybe the compiler’s an old fart like me!
