Hi Deepwater, it's actually in there twice, once on its account and once as part of a longer saying ('be...d ... ....') - if you're referring to the database mentioned earlier, that is.

Thanks Brendan - agreed, but if you click through on that site (on either the word or phrase, they go to the same thing) you get the rather confusing assertion " Classification: English – not an *******" - it's that that's bothering me somewhat.

Deepwater. I guess this is the view of the editors of this particular site. I don’t think there are hard and fast rules and other “experts” may have different views.
I am happier with this than with 11d where the [thematic word] treatment seems to have been applied to [clue answer] when it is usually associated with the longer word [clue answer]+man. The [thematic word] usually affects whole words rather than part words.
That said I think what is intended is pretty obvious and overall it is a very good puzzle.

Oh, having re read the post before mine I now have 11dn. The weakest of the grid I would suggest.

Blowed if I can see any connection between my extra word from 29 and the six-letter foodstuff. Can anyone put me out of my misery.

Two very obscure definitions, both justified in Chambers.

Thank you. As you say, very obscure.

All done except for the hidden thematic word. I have looked at all the rows, columns and diagonals and I still cannot see it. Would Admin allow someone to give me a rough idea as to where I should be concentrating my search, or would that be too specific for this thread?
