Thanks Jono, it's good to know I'm not the only one here who appreciates these things:-)

Yes, I breezed through all but one - 25A - 4 letters and I had 2 of them and still couldn't think of the answer!

Was able to solve all but the clues (1A, 9A, 19A, 20A, 24A, 25A, 3D, 11D) in the first sitting yesterday, and managed to knock off the remaining ones just now.

Funny how I was completely stuck yesterday, but with no lookups or hints the eight missing answers didn't seem that hard today (though I did not consciously think about this puzzle in the meantime).

Does anyone have an explanation for how that kind of thing may work?
