Thanks for the screenwriting clarification, Jono. Interestingly, although the wiki entry gives the impression that it's the origin of the phrase, Chambers doesn't mention it (like me, the lexicographers have seemingly only ever heard it used in relation to the building trade). Sign of the times for Everyman referencing, perhaps?

re 18d, doesn’t the clue imply a noun but the answer is the related verb?

Hi Annie,

18d - I thought the same thing but Chambers gives the answer as "a noisy reveller" and also as the verb "to revel noisily"
