I have a word meaning indeed, from which you could remove aluminium, but I'm not totally clear how the result fits the rest of the clue

2 is an odd looking word - one of the usual 2 letters for 'look!' + a 3 letter songbird + 'nibbled' (3 letters, but there's a word change required to curtail it).
6 'Indeed' is that single letter again, then 3 letters for 'remove' + the obvious... (def needs a correction).
7 first 3 words are the def (needs correction) 6 letters for 'circulate' (shortened) + vehicle [all reversed].

4d - 3 letters for 'my (!)' + the obvious single letter abbrev.

bananabean, 4d is a 3-letter word for "My!" followed by a a 4th letter for "name". The rest is the definition. As there seem to me to be no oddities in this clue, I presume it is one which beeds to be entered with extra blank cell(s).

Fitting the answers into the grid is very difficult given the entry possibilites (the pencil idea is a good one}.
I looked at what the misprints and extra letters were spelling out, that led me to the theme. The preamble (early on) then offers the chance of a decent guess for the bottom of the grid (from there it's much easier to see how the answers wind around).

I gave a hint for 4d just below.

7 - sorry, it's first 4 words for the def (I missed 'I').

With only 9 clues to solve and 17 answers in a grid I still have problems. Firstly, I cannot see where a 3x3 of blank cells go (4d spoils that) and secondly I have nowhere to put 18a or 18d. To try to resolve my error(s) hints to 26a or 27d would help.
