Completely agree with Rogissimo, this is Paul at his most mischievous. Have to go out now but just the SE to get. Some very "really" clues but no sign of a Pauline yet. I don't really understand 2d if I have it right. But it might be a meaning I'm not sure of. 3d I had to Google but a very good clue.

OK,let the subconscious go to work and return to hopefully complete later. Enjoy everyone.

Hi geeker. 17 I knew. In fact my FOI. Like you 24 was not really familiar and not a phrase that I think has that meaning really. But I bow to Paul's superior knowledge.

I must admit to being a big fan of Paul and found this challenging as always, and am stuck on my last two, 24a ( crossers _ I_ E _ /N_ _ _Y) and 8d crossers _ I _H / _ U _K / _ / T _ _ _

It doesn't help that they intersect...

Any hints appreciated, likewise if any of my crossers are wrong.

Many thanks!

Hi JustSolve

Like I said 8d and 24a not really familiar to me. You may be like wise. I googled the meaning for 8d and the phrase came up.

8 is “North American informal” according to Chambers, and of Native American origin. I’d not come across it before.

JustSolve, your T in the final word of 8d is wrong, though I suspect you have the correct word before that. The final letter comes from a three letter word for ‘bound’

Thanks Jono I did think 21a was a toss-up between 2 final letters, the correction will hopefully help me get back on track.

jono, I'm surprised 8 is given as N. American in origin! My late father sometimes used the phrase, but I always thought he'd picked it up from UK acquaintances. 😂

Wow, I'm really stuck. Only have 5 answers in and can't get any further just yet. Any hints would be welcome.
