I have discovered the theme now, But parsing some of the clues is not easy.

It's a poor puzzle if you have no chance of completing without Googling a list of unknown references.

Finished. I got off to a good start but quickly ground to a halt. I also found a hidden in 26 across which seemed to fit but wasn't the correct solution so that set me back too. The list of themed words I found included 4 down. I really enjoyed this one although I don't know how I would have got on if I hadn't been alerted that there was a theme.

Chris. I should have known 26a was themed, as I did his portrait . Shortly after he died through a heart attack !

Hi everyone

Started after lunch as usual, but kept having to break off to complete chores. Anyway, after getting a couple, I soon floundered. I came onto the forum and have been horrified by the length of the thread. I shall have to go back to the beginning to see if it casts any light for me. I shall be back soon to seek some hints as I've only got a quarter, but I did keep falling asleep in the sun!!

I have only 10 themed.

I'm back having read through the thread. It took ages and the undefined theme (what a pain) took me ages to unfathom. But I've now got a google list and can go away and try again.

I should have guessed it through 21d. I think the homophones in 25ac are awful. I had guessed the answer, but couldn't parse it. I'll have another go.

I'm off the wine at the moment so can't recourse to that for help.

Sorry, but I don't like Boatman.

Started this at 7am. Didn't get far. Went out for the day via the Old Walls vineyard in Bishopsteignton where we had a bit of a taster. Came back and once the theme and the lack of definitions became clear (thanks to this forum) I found it more straightforward. Admiring of Boatman for some brilliant clues if perhaps a few too many where ends or beginnings of words.

An odd one but can't say I loved it or hated it.

COD 14d though many were good.

Can I also add 24d as one of the worst clues I've ever seen.
