Again I find myself disagreeing with chrise. The themed words were all perfectly gettable from the cryptic clues. Some of them I didn’t know as thematic words, but a quick check in a dictionary confirmed that they were, and I now know more than I did before (although knowing me I’ll forget it all soon enough). Cryptic crosswords would be dull and uneducational if they didn’t occasionally expand our knowledge.

Could you please explain how you solved 13d from the clue, rogissimo? I can see a company, but not back, and nothing else.

Thanks jazzy - you've not convinced me that it isn't a poor clue! Why move the first two letters two down?
Boatman more than stretches the boundaries of puzzles, intentionally, I'm sure, but I really don't like his output. I will add him to my "don't bother with" list.

chrise: I had all the crossers and worked it out. I find that that’s how crosswords work.

I nearly gave up Chris as I couldn't parse so many, but have been reverse-engineering and a few are still unparsed.

And I moved the first two letters down because the clue told me to.

OK, tell me why the clue told you to move the first two letters down. It has entirely escaped me.

sorry, jazzy, i'm really not seeing it.
i think it makes my point that there was no chance of solving this without a list of thematics - ergo poor puzzle.
