I started this just after midnight and determination kept me awake for longer than intended. A couple went unparsed when I finally dropped off. 2D became clear thanks to bendan @32 (the business term part of the clue I'd NHO, being a mere artisan type of guy). But still after a cup of tea and a large bowl of coffee, I still can't parse 25A.

Hi Deliquium,

25a was also the last clue I was able to parse.

It's split into 3 homophones/"shouted" - 1st is "pub" which is 3 letters but homophone is 2 then next is 3 letter "leg end" but the homophone is 2 letters then finally 4 letter "Jethro" but homophone is 3 letters.

Terrible explanation but best I can do:-)

.... the last part requires a knowledge of a certain 60's band:-)

Finding this a real slog today. Thanks to Geeker, Brendan and others for all the hints. They really are enormously helpful! Will keep at it until I get it done. Sometimes coming back from lunch after a couple of glasses of wine I manage better! :D

I did it in the early hours after a curry and a couple of lagers, which also may have helped!

Thanks Brendan, the band in question were one of my faves as a kid and I even ended up on tour with them in Europe, mid 80s. I see the components of the answer, but can't sus the lopping direction to the 3 words nor make sense of the apostrophe + lower case L. I bet I'll shout a big DUH! at some point?

Very enjoyable crossword though 👍

deliquium: there’s no lopping direction. The ‘shouted’ applies as a homophone indicator to all the preceding words in the clue (I think rather dodgily to the last element).

Thanks rogissimo - and agreed about the last element but we don't want any more homophone wars! That just leaves not understanding the 25A apostrophe + lower case L. Just off out now in the rain with an 8D theme word.

I wonder if the apostrophe l is an indicator as to how we should be pronouncing the last part of "Jethro"?
