Seems that way, Digitalis. The Guardian editorial team having a few issues it seems… today’s Quiptic is missing in action, as are six clues from the Genius!

Hi everyone - I’ve been a ‘lurker’ here for years and have only posted occasionally. Getting through the threads has taken nearly longer than the measly 3/4 of the puzzle that j managed. Agree with a few here that the unmentioned undefined theme has muddled things somewhat for me and I’m not sure I approve. Some clues flew straight over my head and others (that seemed to baffle many) I found surprisingly simple. Didn’t get the theme until I’d trawled the comments.

Glad the narkiness has been vaguely sorted out, as much as I dislike certain puzzles and methods I wouldn’t ever say I disliked the setter personally (tho I may think it sometimes).

Bravo to all who finished without assistance. Toughest I’ve tried in ages.

Welcome Paul,

We look forward to hearing from you again soon and, yes, it was very difficult - especially without a Special Instruction:-)

I hope you don’t mind, but I shared your comment…
“This was an Easter egg hunt without being informed that it was Easter”
…with Boatman, as I thought it was rather apposite.

He replied…
“That’s a very nice way of putting it!”
😉

A niche theme, I would say. Certainly falling just outside what I consider ‘general’ knowledge.

By the way, what’s the book that you mentioned in the thread? I’ve just finished ‘2 Girls’ by Connor and just adored it.

Hi Paul, yes, “Two girls…” by Alan Connor (our latest Everyman) is great fun.
This is the book I was referring to… 50 puzzles and solutions with thoughts and reflections on each one, often including what commentators may have had to say at the time…
