Have a full grid barring one answer that I'm sure I'll figure out at some point. Think I've worked out 6 of the 7 letters as they seem to be the only options. Now stuck.

Can't see the surnames and there seem to be just over 1 billion options for the words of the poem. Is there a scientific way of narrowing this down or did others just stare until the relevant words jumped out?

Considering the title might help you narrow the options for the poem.

Now have the names, the final answer and the letters to be added. Still no idea on the poem....

Smellyharry - the removed material from the clues has been dealt with thematically.

You’re looking for something that isn’t there.

There’s also some good hints earlier in the thread

Yes, just seen it. There was a time when I'd have spent a few hours trying and probably failing to figure that out. Now just looked at the thread.

Fair enough I suppose.

I have a complete grid(with 7 blanks), have the poem and theme, and all 5 names, but no idea how to fill in the 7 blanks.
The 5 names do not touch or cross the blanks as far as I can see. I have tried the obvious instruction from the Poem.
A hint would be appreciated.

eenk - if you have the 5 names, you may have noticed that the names have something missing...and the blank cells are in rows containing the (mutilated) names.
