I do have 5 repetitions, 3 "double-themed" entries, and 4 thematic answers - but only 29 "singly-themed" answers. I have also lost the will to go back and look for the 30th again, so I won't.

jono do you still have my email? maybe we can compare notes.

Oh that’s interesting, jono. I definitely need 6a for my 4 themed solutions. I’ll take (yet) another look.

Curiouser and curiouser, buddy. If I had a fifth repetition I’d have 30 singly-themed answers…but I only have 4!
Do you have 6a as one of your thematic solutions, or are you with jono on that?

Buddy@41 no sorry I can’t find it. Norah may be able to connect us. Or Darla or Paul…

I agree that Maskarade is unfairly maligned. We all miss Araucaria, but these are nonetheless inventive and hugely enjoyable crosswords.

rog, I am counting 6a as one of the 4 thematics - a little odd as it's the only one of the 4 that contains a definition as well as wordplay, but nothing in the preamble precludes that.

jono, I sent darla an email.

Potential full solution thematics… 6, 20, 42, 44, 61. Which would you discount?

my 5 repetitions are:

48d/41a; 36a/18a; 13d/17a; 19a/7d ; 13d/31d

I don't think that's giving too much away at this point.

jono - ack! I googled 61a and there it is. So there are potentially 5 thematic answers.

This puzzle has taught me more about the theme than I really wanted to know,.

I didn’t include 61 because it’s already a double definition, so the fact that it is also a themed word struck me as coincidental. But, as buddy says, the rubric doesn’t exclude this possibility, and the same applies to 6. So Maskarade is hoist on his own petard??

Argh! I somehow missed 48d when doing my count, so I now have a full set of 30 with 5 duplicates. Thanks, buddy.
So I’m now just left with the 6a/61a conundrum.
