Ah thanks. I’d taken that letter as being provided by the 4th word in the clue. I wasn’t very happy with it though as the 3rd word was then redundant.

I have convinced myself that my entry at 14a is correct but I cannot find a definition for it. It uses just three letters if I am correct.

Rickye, it does use only 3 letters and it is in Chambers.

The definition is the first and third words - the second having been omitted. Yes, there are only three letters used.

Many thanks Gitto. I had the last letter incorrect having made a mistake in 11d which was a valid answer!

Definitely a challenge and left a glow of satisfaction when completed. Thank you, Artix!

I used the 1a’s system to indicate the change to 1d as well as the other thematic entries. An unnecessary jeu d’esprit[/] but I couldn’t resist showing off.

Not only am I a confessed show off, I can’t operate the code tags competently!

Rain in Brum means I can return to this after setting it aside for dozens of overs. The instruction still conveys nothing. I'm assuming (since turns are mentioned) that it's x+1 straight segments (joined together) with x turns. (x has been indicated earlier.) Presumably there is a message of some kind reading along the line, and presumably other cells are required as well as those circled. Is this right? The 9th and 10th words of the instruction are the stumbling block.

Try Googling four words from the instruction (from the ninth word inclusive) together with 20a, Cockie.
