Lovely, gentle reveal - I was fearing a booby trap or a message along the lines of "Erase everything nought checks April Fool", but much softer - although a masterpiece of construction - thanks Dolos.

Only one thing I'm still hung up about - the 4-letter ac entry in the bottom left corner had me confidently backing a lustful headless weird sister from the Scottish Play - until Fritz and the Bubble eliminated that option. But still can't see the alternative weird person. Parse hint, please?

P.S. A recommendation for an Easter treat: Search 'Wisdom and Wordplay' and 'Peeing is Relieving' on your favourite online bookstore and buy them - witty, often hilarious aphorisms from a nonagenarian genius - endorsed by Fry and Brandreth, and will surely appeal to all Listeners.

Its a generic term for a weird person, not an indiviual name. Five letters with the first removed. Can be used as a verb, often with “out”, as well as a noun.

This was a delightful 14ac, thank you Dolos, and I certainly fell into the 1d.

If answers aren’t to be entered normally, this ought to be signalled in the preamble or another revealed instruction, although a couple of recent preambles have stretched this so I don’t object to it being confirmed that this isn’t one of those. But if a comment does overstep the mark, it’s better just to sort with Norah than fill this forum with to-and-fro. Still, I really appreciate that we are cautious about going to far, so if we’re sometimes overcautious I’ll take that as a good fault!

I have one niggle troubling my mind, which is that I can’t figure the wordplay for “Forgetting oneself, bit someone…”. The definition and answer are clear, but if someone could just nudge me toward the right bit that would be hugely appreciated.

mooncow, the "bit" you need is explicitly in one of the top five definitions in the BRB.

A lovely puzzle which made me say aargh out loud when I realised what was happening.

Thank you Dolos

I suggested to Quixote in my earlier email that we could ask the Old Pauline Club administrator (see OPC website) to facilitate contact; and I have given instructions that if Quixote asks for his email address to be made known to Third Man then mine should also be forwarded to him.

I agree with your comment (and all the other similar remarks). Expecting a real 'sting in the tail', I laughed when the PD.

Could you exlain the wordplay for the 7th clue "dress fine...", please?
I have a full grid, but this clue still 'niggles' me.

Thanks a lot, and a Happy Easter to all.

cass,
the wordplay is the first two words, did you not check the answer in Chambers?

Neat puzzle. All sorted except for the parsing of the answer to the "Hindu's offering" clue. The last four letters are obvious and, indeed, the first two letters seem to represent the third word of the clue but where do the 3rd and 4th letters (RA) come from? It is niggling me!

"that is" in Germany and Austria" at the end...

leaves you with letters 3,4 and 5 of the answer to represent "champion "
