Brendan,
How lovely !
my husband played tuba once for Bonzo when an original player was taken ill. That was early 70s. in a Richmond jazz gig.
Another of our forum members also played with Bonzo as I recall but I have not seen him recently
That must have been a terrific experience, Jazzgirl. They were a bit before my time but I've just been scanning their Wiki page and one of the band played "tenor sax and various contraptions" - brilliant:-)
And one of those contraptions was a theremin - used on "Noises For The Leg" (Keynsham album IIRC).
Saw them at my college ball in 1969 (or was it 1970?) - terrific.
Brendan, the very large instruments in the video are sousaphones. The tuba which my husband played was similar to the one seen with the clown or the man lying down, When he was in a marching band, the tuba was held in a sling to take the weight :)
Brendan, on the evening I was with the band, the only number I can remember was "down on jollity farm"! We were all singing along (and quite a few people were a little tipsy)
