Ukridge, either you or I have made a BIG mistake as I have 6 columns that satisfy that criteria and a seventh column with 3 unches of a particular letter. As I am absolutely brassed off with grid staring does someone with imeson in their name have anything to do with this?

My previous post should state 5 columns not 6 as the unches in one of the columns are in the same word.

Full grid well before the cocktail hour yesterday, and the two straight line ones duly found. One of the others seems upside-down, and the other remains a mystery, though I think I know where it should appear. The three I've got are using their main names, but my friend wiki offers no help about the fourth one's alternative names. Am I on the right track with the curvy ones?

I'm at exactly the same point as you, cockie. I have 3 alternative names for the 4th but can't see any of them in the grid. One of mine's upside down too. I'm a little puzzled by the wording in the preamble "...tracing a thematic word and an item associated with it". Each of my 3 illustrations is for a single item. Maybe I'm missing something?

You are missing something simond9x. Each ‘illustration’ has two word elements to it which are linked. Keep looking and the penny will drop.

I seem to be in good company, grid filled quite quickly and three of the four illustrations completed. I am stumped by the fourth - I cannot see anything where logic tells me it should be - though I can find a possible element where logic tells me it should not be.

Likewise, only the fourth Quad is eluding me and the letters of its element seem too far to the East. Please offer some guidance.
