Brendan, put a suitable conjunction between the two words and do a search (best in quotes). A Wiki article should come up. Then look for other stuff connected with the thematic name (there's a separate Wiki page and they are all on there). You'll see what Drxx and I were on about at the start of Page 2 (which I STILL think is a scrappy end to an otherwise decent puzzle!).

Thanks Loge, I think I have it, if it's D????G, but the only person I could name connected to this activity is JC whose name doesn't appear to be in the grid. I'll carry on looking.

Sorry, there was one more parse I needed ..

23 - Science institution not initially under female ownership

My answer is a contraction of "belongs to (a female)" but I've put every letter in the alphabet in front of it/initially and it never leads to a scientific institute - where am I going wrong?

Put a T there, Brendan, and put a space after the first three letters

To be fair, Brendan, that was the last one I parsed. I think it’s quite sneaky!

These short clues are pretty tough!
About 75% done but would appreciate a steer on 3. One key character in English History. (4)
And 42. The first sound to accompany spinning laundry. (4)

Lumen, for 3 think “language” after English. For 42, first five words are the definition, “spinning” is an anagrind.

Lumen, For 3 I can see the "key" in the top left hand corner as I type this reply!

Thanks both, I still don't have either of these despite much thinking. I thought of that key but can't see how it connects to history.
