muraria, I can't see any connection between the colours and the name (or the representations) and according to the preamble they've been 'arbitrarily chosen'. Four colours for the four thematic representations.

Hmm - i have a full grid barring the coloured squares but am now a bit stuck.

Do the additions result in real words (in at least one direction)?
With yellow, i see letters that can be added, but they then dont seem to be the same part of speech (unless the right hand yellow forms two words, whereas lh yellow only one?

blue i can see a letter than fits (in that words are made in numerous directions - but no idea how this is significant.

pink and grey i am stumped.

any gentle hints gratefully received!
