I have an answer for 8, but can’t figure the last three words “for Craft’s part” — could someone pls give me a wee hint what this is getting at?

Oh! Stupid me! Ignore! It just occurred to me to see who set this puzzle…! 🤣

PS I don’t recognise the name: a new setter?

Enjoyed that - very satisfying when i realised how to apply the first part of the message. can i just check, is the second part of the instruction re highlighting as straightforward as it seems?

Also few where parsing eludes me:

12a) oz's shooter for such wild cats - i know the correct letter, but not where it goes, or how shooter fits in.
25a) one may use non-latin form for moss, mixing word order up (know the correction here)
27a) cocky pike, chub-like fish leaves scorching (know correction here)
10d) The Beatles, say, not first to top position - i am not even certain of the unches here but cant see anything else that fits (and nor can chambers wordfinder)!

Yes, Andyp, the second instruction really is very simple, straightforward.
For 12, you may wish to readdress 'shooter', and this was possibly mentioned earlier in the thread ( I forgot to check before starting this reply, sorry).

Hi Andy,

27a - 6 letter word meaning "scorching" (more common meaning might 'intensely passionate') minus 2 letter "chub-like fish" from the end.

10d - "The Beatles maybe" (refers more to quantity) minus single letter "first to top" - definition is "position" from fencing.

25a - Is a word referring to worshipers who accept the Pope but can retain their own customs "not-Latin form of m?ss"

Brendan, did you parse 25a? How did you deal with “mixing word order up”?

FWIW I thought it was an anagram of Unital (one), minus the L (non-Latin) mixing word order up. But I may be going mad. The fact that no one else has queried it suggests I am 🤠

Hi Quisling,

I got to it by "mixing word order " to "may use non-latin form for one" = UNITA(l) and then "up" for the anagram

Thanks, Brendan. Likewise, but if so it’s a very unusual clue. Anagram of a strange word not in the clue to create another

I took the def of 25 to be everything up to the comma, then "up" = "at uni" with the order of the words swapped round

Loge, that’s marvellous, and clearly correct. Word order rather than letter order. Many thanks!
