Stumped by 29a? Too early for a hint?

Lumen, it's not a very elegant clue.

Begum -celebrated title of respect, primarily Muslim, when son's gone (5)

The primarily Muslim give you the last letter, preceded by a single-letter title of respect, preceded by a four-letter 'celebrated' (verb), seen occasionally in crosswords which has lost its 'son'.

Oh thanks, and a misprint in definition maybe....
Yes I'd ruled that word out as inelegant as you say !

Lumen, thanks. Yes, I didn't mention the definition in my hint - but there was nothing left!

I've been away since yesterday afternoon and I hoped that a fresh look this morning would do the trick - but it hasn't. I do not understand/see why "other" is the key word, nor where to look. This is becoming extremely frustrating.

I agree with all those who found it a very satisfying solve. Thank you, Craft. Initially, I wondered if one of the new words was a bit of a stretch but it has a specific meaning in Chambers so I sit (in the sun) corrected!

All sorted bar a couple of unsolved clues.
Please can I have a hint for
41ac. Cameron’s Rocky misses examinations after he goes back.
I know the letter to change but can’t see the answer.

''Cameron's'' means it's a Scottish word - it's an 8 letter word for ''examinations'' but without the 'he' and then the remainder is reversed.
The def is rocky masses and you'll know the usual spelling (this changes just one letter).
